As Engadget spotted, he’s converted a whole range of much-loved classic Mac models like the Classic, G3 and G5 into miniature indoor gardens.

It was reported yesterday that Apple is disbanding the division of the company responsible for its wireless networking products: the hard drive-equipped Time Capsule and both AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express routers. The report was given additional credence by recent discounts and the fact that the products haven’t been updated in more than three years.

On one level, the decision seems like a no-brainer for Apple. The company is in the premium product basis. Back in the days when Wi-Fi was a new thing, it made sense for Apple to boost adoption rates by offering its own products; now it’s ubiquitous, there’s no reason for the company to be in what is today a very mundane product category.

But if the news is confirmed, it will sadden me a little – and worry me slightly as well …

The chairman of Quanta, the sole manufacturer of MacBook Pro models, says that shipments of the new models will remain high into the first quarter of 2017, according to Digitimes. Apple is likely responsible for what the company expects to be a strong final quarter this year.

Tests by freelance video editor Peter Wiggins, who runs the fcp.co website, show that the new 15-inch MacBook Pro is almost twice as fast at video rendering as the original 2012 Retina model.

On to a project rendering test with Final Cut Pro X. All the machines used the same Library and were connected to the same Thunderbolt drive where the ProRes 422 was rendered. Before each test, the render files were deleted.

The project was a one and a half minute sequence made up of multicams, chromakey, drop shadow, repositioning and Motion effects […] So a rough bit of maths and you’ll see that the new 15″ MacBook Pro is nearly twice as fast as the 2012 model.

While the comparison is with the first-gen Retina machine, rather than the most recent one, that’s probably a reasonable real-life comparison as most people keep their machines for 4-5 years …

Every so often, a weird bug related to iOS will emerge that causes some sort of temporary misbehaving for users affected by it. For instance, nearly two years ago the infamous “effective power” bug took the internet by storm, and we’ve seen various other similar issues since then.

Now, it has been discovered that playing a certain .mp4 video in Safari on any iOS device will cause the device to slow to a crawl and eventually freeze altogether…

Apple today unveiled a new webpage teasing the upcoming Black Friday shopping holiday. On the webpage, Apple touts that it will be holding a “one-day event” this Friday, much like other retailers do.

Apple, however, has largely stayed out of Black Friday in recent years, instead opting to offload the responsibility of slashing prices to retail partners. If this webpage is any indication though, it seems like Apple might be preparing to reenter the Black Friday game this year…
