Before the avalanche of iPhone 7, Apple Watch and new MacBook Pro news starts hitting the site next week, I thought it would be fun to share a program we’ve been working on here to reward our most dedicated readers.

We’re often given promotional software, gadgets and gear either as part of a review, sponsorship or just to try out and focus group. One concern many users have about Apple Watch 2 likely adding an embedded GPS is what impact precise location tracking could have on battery life. The GPS radio would likely only be tapped during outdoor workouts and when using Maps, but a purported parts leak also claims Apple Watch 2 will gain 35% more battery capacity which would help.

The Apple Watch 2 could be announced as soon as next week at Apple’s expected iPhone 7 event, and today Fitbit is getting a head start by unpacking its latest updates to its fitness tracking lineup. The popular Flex 2 is being updated with swim-proof capabilities while the Charge 2 is getting cardio-focused enhancements. Philips Hue has quickly risen to the top of the food chain as far as iPhone smart home automation is concerned, with a range of HomeKit-compatible white and color lights that are controllable via WiFi. The company is now expanding its Hue range beyond lighting, to include related accessories …. a Motion Sensor. The new Motion Sensor goes on sale in October and allows users to automate parts of their lighting experience based on movement in rooms.

The box is powered by AAA batteries and can be mounted pretty much anywhere in your home. With the Philips app, lights can be triggered based off motion sensor movement and turn off automatically after a set duration. Other intelligent features include a setting to only enable lighting when the room is actually dark, conserving energy usage.

Apple Watch prices have been in a relative freefall in recent months with the oft-rumored upgrade expected in the coming weeks. However, we aren’t expecting a sea change upgrade this time around. Three weeks ago, a KGI report noted that the new Apple Watch 2 upgrade would include GPS, better waterproofing and improved performance but retain the same design. Another report last week reaffirmed those claims.
