Review: Could the Syllable D900s be your first affordable, truly wireless earbuds?

As time has gone on and increased reports of Apple’s next iPhone lacking a headphone jack have persisted, I’ve begun to delve deeper into the future of what consumer audio playback on iOS could be. Though headphones have found their way into nearly all levels of the consumer market in the past few years, I wanted to imagine what this headphone jack-less future could look like. I decided to start with the affordable, and what I would consider entry-level, Syllable D900s true wireless earbuds.

Instagram rolling out Snapchat-inspired ‘Stories’ feature with ephemeral sharing

Facebook has been trying to recreate Snapchat’s success on its own ever since it tried and failed to buy the social app, and the latest feature it has developed for Instagram is no different. Instagram today unveiled Stories, a new photo and video sharing feature that borrows from the Snapchat-created feature right down to the name. Unlike traditional Instagram posts, Instagram Stories are more ephemeral and disappear 24 hours after being posted…

Cyclist suffers third-degree burns after iPhone 6 catches fire following fall

Just yesterday we posted a video showing what can occasionally happen when a lithium ion battery receives impact damage, and today the Sydney Morning Herald has a report showing that the same thing can happen with no sledgehammers involved.

A Sydney bicycle rider […] was severely burnt when his Apple iPhone exploded after a minor fall […] Bondi management consultant Gareth Clear, 36, said his iPhone was in his back pocket and ignited after he had a fall from his bike while riding on Sunday afternoon.

“I just saw smoke coming out of my back pocket…and then all of a sudden I felt this surging pain,” he said, adding that he felt a “searing heat” as the phone burnt through his riding shorts in a matter of seconds.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said that it was investigating, but that the slimness of modern devices like the iPhone increased the risk of such incidents …

Venmo closes flaw that allowed anyone to use Siri on a locked iPhone to empty your account [Video]

TNW reports that the flaw was discovered by a SalesForce security engineer Martin Vigo, who notified Venmo and waited until the loophole had been closed before demonstrating the method …

Pokémon Go hits 100M downloads, earns $10M/day, as company explains third-party service block

There seems no end to Pokémon Go mania as App Annie notes that the app has now hit 100M downloads and is still earning a cool $10M a day some three weeks after launch.

Apple had previously said that the app had set a new record for launch week downloads, but had not revealed the number – though one analyst estimated that the game could be worth as much as $3B to Apple over a 1-2 year timeframe. Interestingly, that success doesn’t appear to be at the expense of other games, as overall revenues across all games saw dropped only briefly.

Pokémon Go has not had a sustained and meaningful impact on the daily revenue of other games on iOS and Google Play. Daily revenue for Games other than Pokémon GO did see a brief dip in the US shortly after the game’s launch, but quickly climbed back to previous levels in a few days.

Indeed, the analytics company believes that the popularity of the game represents an opportunity for other developers as it has popularized the concept of augmented reality and demonstrated to businesses the value of sponsorships …

Logitech brings its Create keyboard case to the 9.7-inch iPad Pro

When the 12.9-inch iPad Pro was unveiled last September, Logitech announced its Create keyboard case the same day. The USP of the keyboard is that it uses the Smart Connector for both power and data connections, so the keyboard doesn’t ever need to be charged and you avoid the delay you get with Bluetooth pairing.

The company took rather longer to support the smaller iPad Pro, but now has a Create keyboard available for the 9.7-inch iPad Pro …
