Withings releases Thermo, the first FDA-cleared & Wi-Fi connected temporal thermometer
Withings today has announced the availability of Thermo, the first FDA-cleared wireless temporal thermometer. Available exclusively at Apple Stores and Withings.com, the thermometer hopes to become a mainstay in households where accurate and frequent readings are desired. Using HotSpot Sensor technology, the thermometer takes 4,000 accurate measurements in just two seconds detecting the hottest point and then giving a highly accurate temperature reading.

Apple Pay officially launches in France
At WWDC last month, Apple announced that its Apple Pay mobile payments service would be coming to France, and now the service has officially went live in the country. With the rollout in France, which was first rumored earlier this year, Apple Pay is now available in 8 countries.

U.S. Army switching from Android to the iPhone 6s due to poor performance
According to Military.com, the United States Army’s Special Operations Command will switch from Android to the iPhone. In the past, the Army has given soldiers an Android Tactical Assault Kit, equipped with what was believed to be a variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note. The new iPhone Tactical Assault Kit, however, will feature the iPhone 6s.

Opinion: iOS’ Control Center could learn a thing or two from popular Android phones
I’m not going to get into the politics of who came up with which ideas first, or who steals ideas from the other, because quite frankly, both iOS and Android have borrowed heavily from one another over the years. I could just as easily head over to 9to5Google and highlight iOS features that I’d love to see in Android, and I probably will in the future.
For now, though, I’d like to focus on iOS, specifically Control Center. It’s a feature that’s been around for going on four generations, and although it has evolved over the years, it still has a long way to go as far as I’m concerned. macOS 10.12 Sierra beta 3 hits the Mac App Store for developers
Apple today released the third developer preview of macOS Sierra since showing off the software update for the Mac at WWDC 2016. The latest release is available now through the Mac App Store. macOS Sierra’s headlining feature is Siri on the Mac while beta 2 turned on Auto-Unlock which lets Apple Watch users skip the password login screen. Apple Pay is also coming to Safari with macOS Sierra, although we haven’t seen the feature live on the web yet.

Apple releases two new ‘Shot on iPhone’ TV ads featuring animal videos
Apple is continuing to emphasise its ‘Shot on iPhone’ campaign, where it features photos and videos taken by ordinary iPhone users, with two new video commercials. One of the ads features a macro close-up clip of an ant carrying a leaf by Tim W. The other is another close-up of a squirrel eating a nut, credited to Linda H.

Apple releases iTunes 12.4.2 with fix for Apple Music short song playback issue
Apple rolling out more accurate song matching algorithm to Apple Music subscribers, identical to iTunes Match
Apple is upgrading the song matching features for Apple Music subscribers to truly mirror the capabilities offered by iTunes Match; the new smarter more accurate song detection is rolling out to Apple Music subscribers for free, over the next few weeks (via The Loop).
Although Apple Music has always included music matching, it used an inferior version than the algorithm used by the standalone $30/year iTunes Match subscription. Apple Music is being updated server-side to offer the same functionality …

OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 officially available via Mac App Store
After several weeks of developer and public beta versions, Apple today has officially released OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 through the Mac App Store for all users. The latest software update to OS X El Capitan will likely be the last before Apple releases macOS Sierra 10.12 with new features including Siri later this fall.
