Apple File System (APFS) announced for 2017, scales ‘from Apple Watch to Mac Pro’ and focuses on encryption
Although it didn’t make the keynote cut, one of the bigger news items for developers today is that Apple is rolling out a new file system for storage for all its products:
The Apple File System (APFS) is the next-generation file system designed to scale from an Apple Watch to a Mac Pro. APFS is optimized for Flash/SSD storage, and engineered with encryption as a primary feature. Learn about APFS benefits versus HFS+ and how to make sure your file system code is compatible.
Details are scant but developers can access information about the new File System here, but it comes with some significant caveats/limitations which will initially limit its usage:

Apple releases full WWDC 2016 keynote video, preview pages for new software
After today’s jam-packed event, Apple has published the full keynote video from this year’s WWDC. Apple has also released the promo videos used during the keynote showing off iOS 10’s newest features and a video dedicated to developers. On the same page with the full keynote page, Apple lists the preview pages showcasing what we’ll be seeing in the official software releases later this fall.

Hands-on: Apple’s new Remote app for Apple TV and iOS [Gallery]
Apple’s WWDC 2016 keynote has just wrapped up, and developer downloads are starting to hit Apple’s Developer site. One of those is the first beta of Apple’s new Remote app with built-in Siri. Apple has put a heavy focus on making sure the new Remote app can replicate and do everything the Siri Remote can, without having to switch away from your iOS device.

Here are the iOS 10 features and developer tools Apple didn’t detail on stage
Every year Apple pulls out ten or so tent pole iOS features to demo on stage at WWDC, but major updates include way more features than we can see in one keynote. These apply to both customer features and developer tools. Below we’ve collected all of the iOS 10 features Apple didn’t have time to demo at WWDC 2016.
Apple today updates its press pages with more social ‘Apple Newsroom’
Apple has always provided a dedicated press page for journalists where you could get the latest press releases and .TIF images for our reports. However with journalism changing to a more social endeavor, Apple today launched Apple Newsroom which is a much more Social and blogger friendly format for sharing news articles. Each newsroom post has a link shortener, Twitter, Facebook and direct email links and many more inline media and images than the previous Press pages.
Newsroom ‘stories’ are more like Apple’s own published work and less like a service for journalists. We of course will be linking to Newsroom whenever we can.

Apple releases Xcode 8 for iOS 10, macOS Sierra and more
Alongside OS betas, Apple is launching Xcode 8 today which is in all-in one development suite for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and TV. The new IDE features extensions to customize the coding experience as well as runtime alerts, new Memory Debugger and accelerated Interface Builder. Developers can download the new Xcode from Apple’s developer portal.

Apple announces Swift Playgrounds for iPad at WWDC, public release in fall
Apple announces Swift Playgrounds for iPad allowing iOS users to play with Swift code on their device for the first time. Apple wants to bring many more people into coding; this is their solution. The app incorporates lessons and challenges — it’s very much a teaching tool.
Swift Playgrounds will be available in the App Store this fall; a developer preview is to be released later today. The app is completely free.

Apple announces all-new Music app with lyrics support coming with iOS 10
At WWDC today Apple has announced changes to Apple Music. Eddy Cue first noted that Apple Music has 15 million paying subscribers, which is the most of any streaming service during the first year. As expected, Apple has entirely redesigned the Music app interface with a new design.
