tvOS 9.2 update for Apple TV will be available later today

During Apple’s special event today, CEO Tim Cook walked through the new features in tvOS 9.2, which we’ve been covering in depth and will detail once more later today. The news of the segment is that tvOS 9.2 will be available later today; release dates for the beta software rolled out last January haven’t previously been available. We’ll update as iOS, watchOS, and OS X get addressed later today.

Apple drops Apple Watch price from today, now starting at $299 for 38 mm

Apple has just announced a price drop for Apple Watch, now starting at just $299 for 38 mm. For that price, it appears to come equipped with the new nylon bands. It’s unclear how other models in the range are impacted. Updating with more pricing information as they become available …

This represents a $50 price drop from the launch $349 price for Apple Watch. Note however, that Apple Watch has been seeing significant $100 discounts in many retail outlets for a while now. Still, this is a nice change for those who buy direct from Apple.com.

Apple announces new Apple Watch bands: Space Black Milanese, new Sport colors, more

As expected, Apple today has not released a new Apple Watch model but rather announced a handful of new bands for the device. Most notably, Apple has announced a new Space Black version of the Milanese Loop. Apple originally introduced the Milanese Loop when it first launched the Apple Watch last April.

Apple COO Jeff Williams introduces new CareKit framework, shares latest ResearchKit developments

It’s been just over a year since Apple’s Jeff Williams first introduced ResearchKit on stage, and today the Apple COO returned to present the latest developments in Apple’s medical research effort. Williams revealed that the largest Parkinson’s study in history happened using ResearchKit. Following the success of both the HealthKit and ResearchKit frameworks, Apple is today introducing a new framework called CareKit. The first app to use this new framework will focus on Parkinson’s.

Apple SVP Lisa Jackson details Apple’s environmental effort including recycling program during event

Apple’s Vice President of environment, policy, and social initiatives, Lisa Jackson took to the stage to discuss the company’s latest numbers and initiatives in environmental protection. Jackson announced that 93% of its operations are running on renewable energy worldwide. A total of 23 countries, including United States and China are utilizing 100% renewable energy.

Tim Cook addresses FBI & encryption controversy at Apple’s press event: ‘we owe it to our customers’

One question that was up in the air leading up to Apple’s press event today was whether or not the company would use the very public stage to also address the current controversy with the FBI over the iPhone’s security.

Today Tim Cook opened up the event with some brief statements on security and encryption and in the process addressed the case with the FBI indirectly.

It’s March 21st, the day of Apple’s March 2016 media event.
