Pangu releases a jailbreak for iOS 9.1 iPhones, iPads, & iPod touches from Mac + PC
Out of seemingly nowhere, the Pangu hacking team has released an update to its jailbreak tool for devices running iOS 9.1. The tool, which is available for both Mac and Windows, allows users to jailbreak the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.
Unfortunately, few people will be able to take advantage of this jailbreak that haven’t already. Why? Apple stopped signing iOS 9.1 back in late December, which means that anyone not currently running iOS 9.1 can no longer downgrade or upgrade to that particular version of iOS. Since many of those who are not jailbroken have since upgraded to newer versions of iOS, and those that are jailbroken are still running earlier version of iOS, it limits the scope of potential users. more…

Future MacBook SSDs could get even faster as Mac compatibility confirmed for super-fast Optane tech

Neat plug adapter turns Mac and iPad chargers into slimline units that fit behind your sofa
As Gizmodo observed, Apple puts a lot of thought into product design, but seems to forget everything it knows when it comes to power adapters (with one exception). The standard Mac adapter sticks out about half a mile from the wall, which can be a pain when the socket is behind a sofa. Ten One Design has a solution in the form of Blockhead.

Yet another “critical” Flash vulnerability allows an attacker to take control of your Mac – fix available
Adobe has announced the latest in a long line of “critical” Flash vulnerabilities, allowing an attacker to take control of your Mac. The same vulnerability has been found in Adobe AIR. The company has released updates for both, which we recommend you install immediately.
Adobe has released security updates for Adobe Flash Player. These updates address critical vulnerabilities that could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system.
Adobe is aware of a report that an exploit for CVE-2016-1010 is being used in limited, targeted attacks.

U.S. Attorney General argues San Bernardino County is the owner of the iPhone, Apple should help ‘the customer’ [Video]
In an interview on The Late Show, U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch told Stephen Colbert that the government in the San Bernardino case simply wants Apple to help a customer.
What we’re asking [Apple] to do is to do what the customer wants. The real owner of the phone is the County, the employer of one of the terrorists who is now dead.

DOJ filing threatens to compel Apple to hand over iOS source code and signature if it fails to cooperate
ACLU principal technologist and Yale Law School visiting fellow Christopher Soghoian drew attention to a rather dramatic raising of the stakes in the DOJ’s latest filing in the San Bernardino iPhone case. It contains an implicit threat that if Apple isn’t willing to create the special version of iOS needed to break the passcode protection, the government could force the company to hand over both the source code and signature so that its own coders could do it instead.
For the reasons discussed above, the FBI cannot itself modify the software on Farook’s iPhone without access to the source code and Apple’s private electronic signature. The government did not seek to compel Apple to turn those over because it believed such a request would be less palatable to Apple. If Apple would prefer that
course, however, that may provide an alternative that requires less labor by Apple programmers.

Bruce Sewell responds to ‘cheap shot’ FBI filling, says it was meant to ‘smear’ and ‘vilify’ Apple
