State of jailbreak: March 2016 [Video]

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a new jailbreak release hit the scene publicly. Sure, we’ve seen teased images of jailbreaks from some well-known hackers within the community, but the last publicly available jailbreak tool was shared back in October 2015. Since then, iOS has been updated several times, and Apple has closed the signing window for iOS 9.0.2, the last firmware susceptible to a publicly released jailbreak tool.

Even though it’s been quite a while since we’ve seen a jailbreak, that doesn’t necessarily mean things have slowed down on the community side of fence. In fact, many new jailbreak tweaks continue to land on Cydia every single month. We also now have tools like Extensify that allow us to tweak some of our favorite App Store apps on non-jailbroken iPhones. Yes, jailbreaking has hit a bit of a lull, but developers and community enthusiasts continue to contribute on a regular basis. more…

Apple leases former Pepsi plant in Sunnyvale, likely for Project Titan electric car project

According to a report from Silicon Valley Business Journal, Apple has recently leased a 96,000-square-foot industrial property in Sunnyvale, California. The property was originally home to a Pepsi bottling plant, but Apple now occupies the entire space. It has widely been reported in the past that Apple is testing its Project Titan electric car initiative in Sunnyvale, with the company reportedly operating a shell company called Sixty Eight Research out of the city.

Within 1 hour of Malaysia Flight 370 going missing, Apple was working w/ officials to find it

Apple has been in Washington D.C. today testifying before the House Judiciary Committee regarding the San Bernardino case. General Counsel Bruce Sewell is representing Apple during the hearing and has fielded a wide range of questions so far. One notable question, however, came from Louisiana representative Cedric Richmond, who pressed Sewell to explain just how quickly Apple would be able to comply with a governmental request for assistance.

Hound launches on iOS as a formidable personal assistant competitor to Siri

Hound, a voice search application from the creators behind SoundHound, has been released today for iOS. Hound’s application focuses on bringing users quick, accurate voice driven search results in a way I only wish Siri could. Implementing Google Now-style cards, Hound’s interface is direct and to the point. Users are presented with a list of similar topics they can search for, and even given examples of the complex queries Hound can handle.

Apple releases iOS 9.3 beta 5 for developers + public beta testers with restored Apple Pencil features

Just nine days after the last developer beta, Apple has released iOS 9.3 beta 5 to registered developers and pubic beta users for testing. This beta version is expected to restore full Apple Pencil support for scrolling and navigation on iPad Pros after earlier betas removed that function.
