Apple Maps has been down for hours, users unable to sear mch for places or get directions

Apple Maps has been down for many hours today, causing mayhem for customers seemingly worldwide. Whilst Apple’s system status reports no issues, users across Twitter and Apple Support forums are finding that is currently impossible to search for locations or get directions. The map tiles appear to be loading normally, but points of interest and critical functions of the app are simply not working.
Apple is yet to officially confirm the downtime or indicate when the issue will be resolved.
Trying Today at Apple’s new app prototyping with Keynote session

Some of my favorite WWDC presentations over the past few years have been those that focused on thoughtful UI design and prototyping, so when I heard that the same topics would be the focus of new Today at Apple sessions, I was curious to try one out myself.
Change My View: Once Macs use ARM chips, they should be updated annually like iPhones

An op-ed piece entitled On The Sad State of Macintosh Hardware is getting some attention. Quentin Carnicelli, of audio software developer Rogue Amoeba, says the situation is so bad that they buy older used Macs rather than ‘compromise heavily’ on current models.
The Mac mini hasn’t seen an update of any kind in almost 4 years (nor, for that matter, a price drop). The once-solid Mac Pro was replaced by the dead-end cylindrical version all the way back in 2013, which was then left to stagnate. I don’t even want to get started on the MacBook Pro’s questionable keyboard, or the MacBook’s sole port (USB-C which must also be used to provide power) […]
Customers are still forced to choose between purchasing new computers that are actually years old or holding out in the faint hope that hardware updates are still to come.
Carnicelli thinks he knows what Apple should do …

Intel now manufacturing modems for 2018 iPhones, but Apple likely still to share orders with Qualcomm this year

Intel is now making its next-generation modems, the XMM 7560, which will be used in the 2018 iPhone lineup. The modem represents a milestone for Intel in a couple of ways; it is the first chip to be manufactured solely in house and it is Intel’s first chip to support CDMA and GSM. In previous years, Intel outsoruced manufacturing to TSMC and all CDMA iPhones (e.g. Verizon and Sprint models) had to use Qualcomm chips as the Intel modem could not support CDMA.
Apple’s original plan for the 2018 iPhones, via Nikkei, was for Intel to have exclusivity on modem orders for the first time — amidst its legal disputes with Qualcomm. However, this is apparently not going to happen this year because Intel has faced some as-yet-unresolved quality issues as it ramps production.
