Review: Netgear Orbi mesh system blankets your home in fast WiFi

Historically, I have flitted between many different routers. I used AirPort Extreme for a while, and then a variety of third-party options. A couple of years ago, mesh WiFi became a popular buzzword. I kind of passed it over, thinking it was more of a marketing gimmick, but I recently got the chance to review one such mesh WiFi system.

Apple planning Mac Pro release for 2019, new Pro Workflow Team providing feedback for professional needs

It’s been about a year since Apple shared its high-end Mac strategy by promising a modular Mac Pro and teasing out the iMac Pro. The high-end all-in-one was shown off in June and released on December, but the all-new modular Mac Pro has been a bigger mystery since Apple confirmed it was coming. Now Apple is setting the expectations in a new TechCrunch interview and specifying that the new Mac Pro will be a 2019 product.

Review: The headline feature of Marshall’s Mid ANC on-ear wireless headphones is the least-impressive thing about them

After being impressed by Marshall’s Stanmore AirPlay speaker earlier this year, the firm asked me if I’d be interested in trying its latest headphones, the Marshall Mid ANC. This is an update to the earlier Mid model with the addition of active noise cancellation.

Ironically, it’s the new feature – the active noise cancellation – that I think is the least-impressive one. But that’s not to say I think that the headphones themselves are unimpressive; far from it …

Upcoming Final Cut Pro 10.4.1 release headlined by powerful new closed captioning toolset and ProRes RAW

It was a mere four months ago when Final Cut Pro X received a major update in the form of version 10.4. That update ushered in exciting new features like 360 VR, advanced color grading, HDR support, and more.

Today ahead of next week’s NAB 2018 in Las Vegas, Apple is announcing the next major update to its professional NLE — Final Cut Pro 10.4.1. Available for download this coming Monday, version 10.4.1 includes support for two big new features: ProRes RAW and a powerful new closed captioning toolset.

Spotify disputes earlier report that it lost to Apple Music in streams of The Weeknd’s new single

It was reported earlier this week that more Apple Music subscribers streamed The Weeknd’s new album, My Dear Melancholy, than Spotify members. This seemed like something of a coup for Apple given that it has around a quarter of Spotify’s subscriber base – all the more so when Spotify had two exclusive music videos from the EP.

But Spotify now apparently disputes this, bizarrely claiming that it initially provided the wrong numbers …
