Reviewer discovers Sonos One also marks certain wood finishes like Apple’s HomePod

Yesterday it was discovered that HomePod can leave white rings on oiled wood finishes during normal use — something that is not obvious nor ideal. Apple responded by saying that it’s not unusual for ‘vibration-dampening silicone’ to react that way and recommended customers use HomePod on different surfaces. Facebook using 2FA cell numbers for spam, replies get posted to the platform

Facebook is reportedly spamming some users by text, using a cell number they provided only for use in two-factor authentication.

In common with many services, Facebook allows you to protect your account by requiring a code when you first login from a new device. That code is texted to a cell number you provide for the purpose – but a number of users have reported it being used without their permission for notifications about posts by friends …

Petition calling for Snapchat to rollback redesign hits 1M signatories; company declines

A petition calling on Snapchat to rollback its major redesign has now hit a million signatories, up from 600,000 in just a few days. A hoax tweet claiming that the company would abandon the design if retweeted 50,000 times has also attracted more than 1.5M retweets.

The redesign initially got a slow rollout, before being pushed to most users over the weekend, but it seems the company has no plans to respond to the call to reverse the changes …

Receiving an Indian character crashes Messages and other apps in iOS 11

There have been a number of cases where sending a particular message to an iOS device causes the Messages app to crash, leaving users unable to re-open it – and a new one has emerged in iOS 11.
