Comment: Why Apple’s HomePod teaser killed my Amazon Echo curiosity

Apple’s HomePod teaser was somewhat oddly placed. Two hours into a developer conference without real developer opportunities and six months before the product is ready to ship. Why? Apple surely has a list of reasons like working around leaks and market pressure to show what they’ve been building.

If for no other reason, the teaser was probably intended to whet the appetite of Apple users tempted to jump in to the Amazon Echo ecosystem. I was certainly in that camp, and it worked for a few reasons.

Facebook says Instagram Stories now at 250M daily users, will expand it to other services

After deciding to clone Snapchat’s Stories feature and roll it out to Instagram last August, today the company offered an update on progress (via CNBC), confirming the feature now has 250 million daily active users. That’s up from the 200 million it announced back in April when it officially surpassed Snapchat. In comparison, Snapchat was at around 166 million daily active users as of its last announced numbers in May.

Olixar claims to reveal iPhone 8 design w/ new cases now available to order

Yesterday one of the first screen protectors allegedly for iPhone 8 leaked claiming to show the device’s expected design and other features. It was made by case manufacturer Olixar, and today the company is one of the first to reveal an entire line of cases for the upcoming iPhones. It’s also started accepting preorder for the cases that it says depicts both the front and back of the iPhone’s new design accurately.

We’re told by the company selling the cases, MobileFun, that Olixar has created them using “information and schematics they’ve acquired through their factories and contacts in the far east.”
