Samsung unveils Galaxy S8 & S8+ w/ near edge-to-edge Infinity Display & Siri-competitor Bixby
Samsung is today showing off its latest flagship smartphones that will compete with Apple’s next-generation iPhones this fall, officially unveiling its new Galaxy S8 and S8+ devices and its new Siri competitor called Bixby that will debut on the new phones. Spotify plans ‘Traffic Jams’ TV show and, yes, it’s an Apple Music Carpool Karaoke knockoff
Ahead of the debut of Apple’s previously announced Carpool Karaoke TV series on Apple Music next month, Spotify is planning what sounds a lot like a knockoff of the series with its own show called “Traffic Jams,” Variety reports.
But instead of having celebrities and musicians perform a song karaoke-style, Spotify is going to have artists produce a song in a moving vehicle (innovation!). It’s hosted by comedian DoBoy who will also drive the vehicle while the artists perform in the back. So, in other words, it’s exactly like Carpool Karaoke. Not a great look for Spotify’s answer to Apple’s original content plans. The first show is set to debut April 4th and feature artists T-Pain and Southside:

Cloud services compared, or why I’m all-in on Apple but not on iCloud
I’ve been an Apple guy since forever. I bought the very first Macintosh back in 1984. My current mobile technology line-up is a 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, 11-inch MacBook Air (now just a backup Mac), 9.7-inch iPad Pro and an iPhone SE. I’m all-in on Apple, and the ecosystem is a large part of that. Things may not always Just Work, but the Apple ecosystem gets closer to that than anyone else.
However, while I do make some use of iCloud, I’m not all-in on Apple’s cloud storage. In this piece, I compare the main cloud services out there, and finally describe the mix-and-match approach I use to get what I consider to be the best of all worlds …

Apple’s long-time head of Apple Mail leaves to lead Readdle’s Spark email app
Apple’s long-time head of Apple Mail Terry Blanchard is leaving the company, but he will continue working on mail apps for iOS and Mac as he joins software company Readdle as the VP of Engineering for its Spark email app. The move comes after six years as the lead of Apple’s Mail app development. Blanchard joined Apple in 2011 and led the development and QA teams for Apple Mail until joining Readdle this month.
While it’s unclear exactly why Blanchard has decided to part ways with Apple,he does hint that he shares “a fundamental vision of what the future of email should be” with Readdle.

UBS says AAPL could reach $200/share as it hits 11th record high so far this year
A UBS analyst says that AAPL stock could reach as high as $200/share over the next 2-3 years, as the stock hit its 11th record high so far this year. It has already hit the equivalent of $1,000/share when you factor in the share split.
MarketWatch notes that the stock yesterday set two records: its highest ever value, at $143.80, and its highest intraday price of $142.80. Many analysts are setting high target prices for the stock, and one of them even predicts a possible $200 level, notes Business Insider – though he does add some crucial riders …

GigSky expands international iPad data plans to 180+ countries with Apple SIM
After expanding to include a total of 140+ countries back in June last year, international iPad data plan provider GigSky announced today that it is now available in an additional 40+ regions using an Apple SIM. The company first launched its service for iPad back in 2015, offering no-contract cellular data plans in around 90 countries by leveraging Apple’s new carrier-agnostic Apple SIM card included in the device.

Comment: I don’t believe Apple is dumb enough to move the Touch ID sensor to the back
The iPhone 8 reports to date mostly point to Apple embedding the Home button and a new type of fingerprint sensor into the display itself, as a way to lose most of the ‘chin’ of the device. Today, however, the sketchiest of reports suggests that the company will instead move the existing Touch ID sensor to the rear of the phone.
The report mixes this in with a raft of things we’ve heard before. Glass backs, vertical cameras (which would be horizontal when used in the more common landscape mode) and iPhone Edition naming are all things that have been reported previously. So while iDropNews would like us to believe that its unspecified ‘insider’ has revealed a whole bunch of new things, the report is actually just a mish-mash of earlier rumors coupled to one piece of supposedly new information …

Sketchy report suggests iPhone 8 will be named ‘iPhone Edition’, Touch ID moved to rear, vertical dual cameras
Many features of the iPhone 8 have been well documented at this point, with a general consensus on a 5.8-inch OLED screen on a chassis with almost no front bezel, along with wireless charging, 3D-sensing front camera and much more.
However, the ‘bezel-less frame’ has left one rather big open question. What happens to the Touch ID sensor? There have been murmurs of Apple integrating the fingerprint sensor below the display glass. This sounds cutting-edge and modern, but has not been well substantiated. A report coming out today suggests a far less exciting possibility for the Touch ID sensor …
