Report: Apple’s iOS and macOS lose market share to Chrome OS in US K-12
Apple’s iOS and macOS platforms both lost share to Chrome OS in the US K-12 education market last year, according to new data from Futuresource Consulting (via The New York Times).

Bare Bones Software sunsetting TextWrangler, focusing fully on BBEdit text editor development
Bare Bones Software announced this week it will no longer develop new versions of its free code editor app TextWrangler. While the software will continue to work barring any future show stopping bugs, Bare Bones says it won’t release updates to TextWrangler for the next version of macOS.

Spotify tops 50 million paid subscribers as it continues battle with Apple Music
The streaming music subscription battles continue to be fierce as Spotify announces today that it has crossed 50 million paid subscribers for its service. This is up from 40 million in September, an increase in user-base of 25% over about five months.

KGI reports Apple iPhone 8 will not switch to USB-C, internal upgrades will support fast charging over Lightning
KGI is refuting claims made in the Wall Street Journal earlier this week that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8 would replace Lightning with a USB-C port.

Apple lends support to transgender school student fighting Supreme Court case
Apple has lent its support to a legal brief supporting a transgender school student’s fight in the Supreme Court regarding the right to use the bathroom appropriate to his gender identity, reports the NYT. It follows the company last week voicing opposition to President Trump’s ruling to roll back protections for transgender kids in schools.
