Apple extending coverage of Retina MacBook displays with ‘Staingate’ issue
In 2015 we reported on an issue with MacBook Retina displays that were seeing problems with the anti-reflective coating wearing off, which came to be known as ‘Staingate.’ Although some customers experienced the issue as early as 2012, Apple started covering the repair free of charge in 2015. A video of an iPhone 7 Plus catching fire has gone viral, with some drawing comparisons with early Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fires.
This is not the first time that an iPhone has caught fire, and it won’t be the last. But as we’ve noted before, it’s important to view such incidents in perspective …

Cloudflare security breach exposes data from Uber, Fitbit, OKCupid among 3,400 websites; password changes recommended
User data from 3,400 websites has been leaked and cached by search engines as a result of a bug in Cloudflare, a content delivery network used by 3,400 websites. Sites affected over the course of several months include major ones like Uber, Fitbit and dating site OKCupid. 1Password also uses Cloudflare, but says that end-to-end encryption means that no customer data was exposed.
ArsTechnica reports that the leaks were spotted by Google security researcher Tavis Ormandy.
We observed encryption keys, cookies, passwords, chunks of POST data and even HTTPS requests for other major cloudflare-hosted sites from other users. Once we understood what we were seeing and the implications, we immediately stopped and contacted cloudflare security.
Cloudflare has admitted that the breach occurred, but Ormandy and other security researchers believe the company is underplaying the severity of the incident …

Apple says it is ‘looking into’ viral video that shows an iPhone 7 Plus catching fire
Making the rounds on Twitter recently has been a video of a smoking iPhone 7 Plus. The video, shared by Brianna Olivas, shows the device burning to the point that the case is melting away and smoke is erupting from the side of the device.

Release of new 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models reportedly pushed to May or June
Apple is widely expected to hold a media event next month to announce new iPads and perhaps refreshed iMacs and other products. A new report from Digitimes reiterates much of what we already know about Apple’s planned iPad refresh, including the launch of new 9.7-inch, 10.5-inch, and 12.9-inch models.
The report notes, however, that the 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch models may not ship until May or June…
