Google today has announced an update to its Maps app on iOS that brings a few notable changes. The update improves ride sharing integration with Uber, while it also refreshes the ride sharing interface as a whole. The update is also coming to Android.

Snapchat today has announced that it’s brining an entirely new search functionality to its iOS and Android apps. The feature will partially solve one of the long-standing complaints about Snapchat, with the company hoping that it will help users quickly find content to explore and new users to add as friends.

While Apple TV apps were limited to 200MB in size when the device was first announced back in 2015, Apple has announced this evening that it is now accepting larger tvOS binaries. This means that developers can now submit apps as big as 4GB.

According to Reuters, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals today ruled that users have the right to sue Apple over allegations that the company has created a monopoly in the app industry by only allowing iOS users to install applications from the first-party App Store.

The ruling is a reversal of the decision reached by a lower court in 2013, which sided with Apple.

Consumer Reports has published new results for their MacBook Pro battery testing today after having previously given the system a Do Not Recommend rating. Consumer Reports has officially changed their recommendations and can now recommend the new 2016 MacBook Pros. The new tests come after Apple and CR worked together to decide what went wrong during the original testing. After becoming aware of a Safari bug that may have impacted results, CR recently started retesting on a newer build of macOS Sierra in which the bug was supposedly fixed.

Apple has released the fourth iOS 10.2.1 beta for developer testing on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. iOS 10.2.1 is likely a bug fix and performance improvement release. The initial beta was released on December 14 with a second beta issued before the holiday break. A third beta version was released at the start of this week. We’ll update to the latest version and highlight any changes discovered below.

A recent discussion on Reddit has brought to light the news that YouTube no longer has the 4K video playback option when using Safari. The change may have come after a long ago announcement that YouTube began encoding uploaded videos into VP9. The change seems to affect recently uploaded videos, and thus so far only seen on the main YouTube site and not within embeds.
