Apple again expected to begin making iPhones in India by April as new job listings emerge

Apple has long been rumored to be setting up a manufacturing presence in India, with a report most recently outlining some of the concessions Apple was seeking from the Indian government. Now, a new report from the Times of India claims that Apple will start manufacturing the iPhone in India in April of 2017, while the company has also posted a handful of job listings in the country.

Review: Contour’s ShuttleXpress is a must-have $60 gadget for audio & video editors [Video]

While I’ve been a photographer since I was 14, when my bedroom became a darkroom with a bed in the corner, I’m a complete beginner where video is concerned. The closest I’ve ever got to video production was putting together a few exceedingly basic cycling videos in iMovie to share with friends.

However, since we live in an age when tech writers are increasingly expected to be video producers, and I love to learn new skills, I’ve set myself a new goal for 2017. At some point in the year, I want to be able to produce professional-looking review videos that wouldn’t look out of place when viewed alongside the output of my extremely skilled colleagues. I’ve upgraded to Final Cut Pro, and I’ll be taking you guys along for the ride – beginning with the demo video for this review.

It’s already clear to me just how much I have to learn, so anything which makes my goal a little easier has to be worth a look. And that’s exactly what Contour’s ShuttleXpress aims to do …

Consumer Reports responds to MacBook Pro battery test controversy, stands by its findings

Consumer Reports has responded to my comment piece on its surprising battery test results for the 2016 MacBook Pro, stating that it stands by its findings.

I observed that the high-end numbers seemed hard to believe, hitting almost double the battery-life claimed by Apple, and I wondered whether some flaw in the test regimen had led to erroneous results. I emailed the organization suggesting that it might like to repeat the tests, but Consumer Reports’ director of electronics testing Maria Rerecich has replied saying that she sees no need to do so …

iPhone 7 not good enough to capitalise on Samsung’s disaster, say analysts

Analysts say that device activations show that Apple wasn’t able to capitalise on the dramatic recall of Samsung’s Note 7. Despite the damage done to Samsung’s reputation, and the opportunity that created for Apple to persuade owners to switch platform, most Note 7 buyers ended up replacing it with another high-end Galaxy phone, said Stephen Baker, primary hardware analyst at tech industry research firm NPD.

Samsung was able to fend off other Android competition, and Apple, too, thanks to Apple’s own lack of a wowing product this year.

Mobile industry consultant Chetan Sharma agreed with NPD’s assessment …

Apple said to be seeking relaxed labeling laws in India as it plans manufacturing presence

Apple has long been working with the Indian government to set up retail locations in the country, a task that’s rather challenging due to stringent regulation in the country. Now, The Economic Times reports that one concession Apple is fighting for in India is related labeling laws so it doesn’t have to print product info on devices.

As Foxconn mulls possible U.S. expansion, other key iPhone supply partners aren’t likely to follow

While Foxconn has expressed somewhat of an interest in potentially moving a portion of its operations to the United States, other supply chain manufactures that Apple relies on are reportedly less interested in making the jump. According to a report from Chinese publication qq, manufacturers are turned off by higher labor and operating costs in the United States.
