Rumored Apple partner to ship long range wireless charging tech by year end as competitors demo at CES

Potential Apple partner Energous has once again further delayed the release of their wireless charging technology. In a phone call with the CEO today, Energous stated that plans changed after “key strategic partnership” was made. That doesn’t mean wireless charging is down for the count at this year’s CES though. Ossia is set to launch Cota Tile, a ceiling that can deliver wireless power to compatible devices.

Griffin expands BreakSafe line w/ 100W magnetic USB-C cable for new MacBook Pros, USB-A adapter, car & wall chargers

Griffin today announced new products for its line of BreakSafe products with magnetic breakaway connectors that mimic the functionality of Apple’s legacy MagSafe technology. Among the new product is an updated BreakSafe Magnetic USB-C Breakaway Cable for the 2016 MacBook Pro, as well as a new USB-A adapter, a car charger, and a wall charger that all use the BreakSafe magnetic connectors.

Hulu sets itself apart from DirecTV Now as it secures CBS for upcoming live TV service

Hulu announced today that it has singed a new agreement with CBS to carry content from America’s most-watched broadcast network including both on-demand and live programming. This news comes about a month after DirecTV Now launched without the major network, although CBS CEO Les Moonves has alluded that they’ll be able to figure something out.

Apple confirms $1 billion investment in SoftBank’s $100B Vision Fund

Following reports in recent weeks that Apple held talks regarding a potential investment in Softbank’s $100bn technology fund, today the company confirmed that it will indeed invest $1 billion into the project known as the “Softbank Vision Fund.”

The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple confirmed the investment today and also offered a statement provided by company spokesperson Kristin Huguet. In the statement, the company says it thinks the investment will help “speed the development of technologies which may be strategically important to Apple.”

Malwarebytes warns of denial-of-service attacks on Macs, but blocked by latest Sierra update

Malwarebytes has warned of a new malware attack targeted specifically at Macs. The denial-of-service attack hijacks Safari and Apple’s Mail app to keep drafting emails until the Mac eventually runs out of RAM and crashes.

The [malware] will keep drafting emails (but does not actually send them) incrementally and covering the previous open windows. This is not a spam attempt but rather a typical denial-of-service attack …

Ford, Toyota, and more form alliance to prevent Apple and Google from taking over the in-car experience

A report from Bloomberg today takes note that Ford and Toyota have joined forces with four other automakers and some electronics suppliers to form the SmartDeviceLink Consortium. The alliance has shared its main goal of creating more choice for connecting smartphones with vehicles, which in turn could create some friction with Apple, Google, and their visions for integrating and controlling the user interface inside of cars.

Chamberlain is bringing Apple’s HomeKit to MyQ garage door openers this year

Chamberlain was one of the original companies committed to HomeKit when Apple introduced the smart home framework a few years ago, and this year Chamberlain is finally delivering with two new HomeKit-enabled products for its line of MyQ garage door openers. The first is an upcoming bridge hub that will work with HomeKit for future installations, and the second is a bridge that will upgrade current MyQ Garage installations to work with HomeKit.
