The human eye is amazing, but it’s limited as to what it can see. Apple has shared updated metrics on iOS 11 adoption today along with a new developer support document. The latest data says that the installed iOS 11 user base is more that double that of iOS 10 and that only 7% of users are running iOS 9 or earlier.

Apple has hired a team of data scientists from a company called Silicon Valley Data Science, Bloomberg reports. While it doesn’t sound like a full blown acquisition, the report notes that Apple’s hiring spree includes the CEO of the consulting firm.

Amazon has today brought full voice control to its Alexa app for Android and will be coming shortly to iOS as well. Previously, the Alexa app was more of a hub to customize Echo speakers and other smart home settings.

Apple has released multiple new betas for testing ahead of release. iOS 11.2.5 beta 7, watchOS 4.2.2 beta 5, and macOS 10.13.3 beta 6 are all now available on Apple’s developer center and over-the-air. Excluded is any new tvOS 11.2.5 beta, although a new version was released earlier this week.

I’ve commented before on Apple’s rather messy iPhone lineup. The company currently sells the iPhone SE, the iPhone 6s, the iPhone 7, the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X. Given the Plus model variations, and ignoring colors and storage capacities, that’s eight different phones across four different sizes.

If we ignore the relatively minor form factor differences between the iPhone 6s, 7 and 8, that’s also three different designs.

But KGI’s predictions of what we can expect this fall, reiterated today, would make for a much more sensible lineup …
