Pad & Quill introduces three new rich iPad Pro cases with linen, leather, and wood

iPad Pro Pad & Quill 2-1

With the iPad Pro now available and shipping around the world, the artisanal Apple accessory makers at Pad & Quill have introduced three new high-end cases to hold and protect the larger tablet. Whether you’re looking for a book-style carrying case that holds Apple Pencil or a nice leather bag that adds room for a keyboard, Pad & Quill’s three new accessories are worth checking out for iPad Pro owners.

All three iPad Pro cases from Pad & Quill are offered in multiple colors with rich materials and available to pre-order or order now.

Contega Linen will satisfy anyone looking for Pad & Quill’s wooden book style case made for iPad Pro. Available in charcoal, cranberry, and linen gray, Contega sets your iPad Pro in a wood case that stands up at multiple angles. When shut, Contega disguises your $800-$1080 tablet in what looks like an ordinary sketchbook. There’s even room at the top to tuck your Apple Pencil if you’re using the iPad Pro as one. Cutouts around the wood accommodate the iPad Pro’s four speakers, Lightning port, and headphone jack.

Oxford Leather offers a similar exterior look to Contega, choosing leather over linen to create a folio style case for your iPad Pro. Choose between chestnut or whiskey tones for your leather, which comes with Pad & Quill’s usual 25 year warranty. Oxford features a pocket within the cover where you can stow away paperwork or your Apple Pencil. Oxford doesn’t cover the iPad Pro edges either so you can still use Smart Connector compatible accessories like Apple’s Smart Keyboard with it, P&Q notes. iPad Pro is held inside with “clean release adhesive” so Oxford is likely more ideal for iPad Pro owners more concerned with propping the tablet up than protecting it beyond from drops.

2-leather-bag-for-ipad-pro
key-ipad-pro-leather-sleeve

Valet Leather looks to satisfy iPad Pro owners that don’t exactly want a case but still want to address toting around the 12.9-inch tablet and any accessories. Smaller than a full-sized briefcase or backpack but big enough to tote an iPad Pro, Apple Pencil, and Magic Keyboard, Valet should be as portable as the iPad Pro on its own, but accommodate charging accessories and other important carry-alongs. Keeping the iPad Pro out of sight and having tough leather between the display and rest of the world is another added benefit. Hopefully we can get our hands on these accessories soon and share our impressions.

Contega Linen, Valet Leather, and Oxford Leather each ship for $119.95 and can be ordered online from Pad & Quill now. For comparison, Apple’s Smart Cover ($59) plus Silicone Case ($79) costs $140 if you want to cover the iPad Pro’s front and back. Valet Leather is in stock now, and Contega and Oxford ship in mid-December if you pre-order.

7 Little-Known PowerPoint Tricks You’ll Wish You Knew Sooner [Infographic]

The fact that “death by PowerPoint” has become a well-known quip in the business world says something about the state of people’s PowerPoint presentations.

While PowerPoint is an incredible business tool, it’s often misused by users who crowd their slides with too many words or distracting designs. They know the basics, but have yet to tap into the lesser-known PowerPoint tricks that can take a presentation from good to great.

For example, did you know you can turn on grid marks to help you align your text boxes and images symmetrically when designing your slides? (I know. It’s wild.)

Understanding the 4 Types of Risks Involved in Project Management

Need a simple project management software to manage your team?
Check-out our valuable and unique Top 15 Web Applications 2015.

Introduction

risk-managementComplex projects are always fraught with a variety of risks ranging from scope risk to cost overruns. One of the main duties of a project manager is to manage these risks and prevent them from ruining the project. In this post, I will cover the major risks involved in a typical project.

1. Scope Risk

This risk includes changes in scope caused by the following factors:

    • Scope creep – the project grows in complexity as clients add to the requirements and developers start gold plating.
    • Integration issues
    • Hardware & Software defects
    • Change in dependencies

2. Scheduling Risk

There are a number of reasons why the project might not proceed in the way you scheduled. These include unexpected delays at an external vendor, natural factors, errors in estimation and delays in acquisition of parts. For instance, the test team cannot begin the work until the developers finish their milestone deliverables and a delay in those can cause cascading delays.

To reduce scheduling risks use tools such as a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and RACI matrix (Responsibilities, Accountabilities, Consulting and Information) and Gantt charts to help you in scheduling.

3. Resource Risk

This risk mainly arises from outsourcing and personnel related issues. A big project might involve dozens or even hundreds of employees and it is essential to manage the attrition issues and leaving of key personnel. Bringing in a new worker at a later stage in the project can significantly slow down the project.

Apart from attrition, there is a skill related risk too. For instance, if the project requires a lot of website front end work and your team doesn’t have a designer skilled in HTML/CSS, you could face unexpected delays there.

Another source of the risk includes lack of availability of funds. This could happen if you are relying on an external source of funding (such as a client who pays per milestone) and the client suddenly faces a cash crunch.

4. Technology Risk

This risk includes delays arising out of software & hardware defects or the failure of an underlying service or a platform. For instance, halfway through the project you might realize the cloud service provider you are using doesn’t satisfy your performance benchmarks. Apart from this, there could be issues in the platform used to build your software or a software update of a critical tool that no longer supports some of your functions.

Conclusion

If you want to go deeper into this subject, you could consider buying the book that is suggested for PMI preparation – Identifying and Managing Project Risk: Essential Tools for Failure-Proofing Your Project.

Using a Project Management Tool to Help Mitigate Risk?

Many of the risks mentioned above could be minimized or eliminated by implementing robust project management tracking and communication through the many online tools now available. Take at look at a few mentioned below to see if one could fit in your reality:

Poll: Is Tim Cook right that a converged Mac and iPad would be too compromised a device?

converged

Tim Cook has consistently spoken out against the possibility of converging iOS and OS X devices, most famously saying that “you can converge a toaster and refrigerator, but these things are probably not going to be pleasing to the user.”

He repeated this line earlier this week, stating that Apple wants to make “the best tablet in the world and the best Mac in the world – and putting those two together would not achieve either.”

However, some of your comments suggest that not all of you agree, so we’ve adopted the suggestion of one commentator and posed the question …

One suggestion that has been voiced by a number of people here and elsewhere is a single device that operates as a MacBook when it is used in clamshell mode, but with a detachable screen that switches to iOS to become an iPad.

One third-party company even goes so far as to offer a MacBook Pro tablet conversion, the Modbook Pro.

Assuming that Apple continued to make both MacBooks and iPads as well, should it add a converged device into the mix? Take the poll, and share your thoughts in the comments.

Apple refreshes Beats Solo 2 Wireless + urBeats with rose gold colors to match iPhones & Apple Watches

Beats Rose Gold 2-1

Two months after the introduction of the rose gold iPhone 6s and Apple Watch Sport, Apple has refreshed its Beats Solo 2 Wireless headphones and urBeats in-ear headphones with matching rose gold color options. If you’ve already got Solo 2 Wireless or urBeats, the only difference here is the new color option, but they do look good especially if you want to match your hardware. Apple now offers iPhone and Apple Watch color-matching versions of both headphone models with gold, rose gold, silver, and space gray.

Beats Solo 2 Wireless pair to iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, Apple TVs, and other Bluetooth-compatible devices for audio playback without the hassle of dealing with an audio cable. Bluetooth also provides around 30 feet of wireless range, so you aren’t anchored to the audio source either. The cheaper, wired versions of Beats Solo 2 don’t have a rose gold option.

Solo 2 Wireless recharges using Micro USB, lasts 12 hours on one charge, and includes an audio cable for traditional use as well. Pick up the new rose gold versions for $299.95, and in-store pickup at Apple Stores appears readily available if you’re knocking these off your holiday shopping list. If rose gold isn’t your flavor, you can find other colors including red and blue for $199 (reg. $299) elsewhere.

Rose Gold iPhone 6s Plus Apple Watch

urBeats in-ear headphones are both more affordable and more portable. These are basically upgrades over the white EarPods that come with the iPhone, and now the rose gold versions can match the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Just like EarPods, you’ll find in-line volume toggles and playback controls plus a mic for Siri and voice calls.

The casing is metal so they’re stronger than plastic, and the wires are flat and pretty tangle-resistant unlike the earbuds Apple throws in the box. The new $99.95 rose gold urBeats also look to be readily available for in-store pickup today of find more color options on sale.

Top 10 Reasons Why Projects Fail

Need a simple project management software to manage your team?
Check-out our valuable and unique Top 15 Web Applications 2015.

Introduction

Choosing between failure and successAs a project management consultant at JPStewart Associates, I have discovered that many projects fail outright. And further, that many of them fail for the same reasons. So I have compiled a Top Ten list of Reasons Why Projects Fail, largely from my own experience.  I’ve also tried to share some ideas about how each of these problems can be overcome.

#1 – Scope Creep

Scope is everything that you are going to do and conversely, not going to do. So once you’ve figured out exactly what the project work is, usually via a Work Breakdown Structure, you need to freeze it and zealously guard against unplanned changes to it. So planned changes via a change control board are ok, since then the PM can issue a new schedule, risk and budget plan as needed. Otherwise, you will surely miss your target and make both the management and customer unhappy.

#2 – Overallocated Resources

Often there are too few resources working on too many projects at the same time. In conjunction with that, managers don’t seem to have a grip on what their resources are doing all the time.  Team members are left to figure out for themselves what projects they should be working on and when. Better is for managers to meet weekly to discuss resource usage perhaps using a spreadsheet to track.

#3 – Poor Communications

Many people on a project will know the project manager only through his or her communications. And they will know him by how his voice comes across over the phone or especially by how well-written his emails are. If the project manager is not a clear unambiguous communicator, chaos and confusion will ensue.

#4 –Bad Stakeholder Management

Stakeholders have a vested interest in the project for the good or sometimes to the detriment of the project. It is the project manager’s job not only to identify all stakeholders, but know how to manage and communicate with them in a timely fashion.  A communication management plan helps here.

#5 – Unreliable Estimates

Estimates are very often just guesstimates by team members who are trying to calculate duration of tasks based on how long it took them last time. This may turn out to be totally accurate or may be completely wrong.  And if wrong, leads to a flawed schedule and increased risk. Historical records kept between projects helps solve this.

#6 – No Risk Management

Every project is unique and hence, has uncertainty. When we try to qualify and quantify that uncertainty, we call it risk. It is incumbent upon the project manager to proactively anticipate things that might go wrong. Once he has identified risks, then he and the team can decide on how to respond to (e.g., mitigate, avoid) those specific risks should they occur.

#7 – Unsupported Project Culture

I was once asked to consult for a company and discovered that a complex project was being handled by an untrained secretary using 20 Excel spreadsheets. In this case, management clearly did not fully understand what it took to manage a project either in tools or using trained personnel. This is not easily solvable because it requires education of management and a cultural shift.

#8 – The Accidental Project Manager

This is similar to but not exactly the same as the unsupported project culture.  In this instance, what typically happens is that a technical person (software developer, chemist, etc.) succeeds at the job. Based on that, gets promoted to project manager and is asked to manage the types of projects they just came from. The problem is they often don’t get training in project management and may well lack the social skills the job calls for. And so they flounder and often fail despite previous successes.

#9 – Lack of Team Planning Sessions

There is no more effective way to kick off a meeting than to have the entire team come together for a planning session. This enables everyone to not only work together on project artifacts (schedule, WBS) but also to bond as a team and buy into the project.

#10 – Monitoring and Controlling

Many project managers will create a schedule and never (or rarely) update it. Or if they do, they’ll just fill in percent done, which is an arbitrary number often picked out of the air by the team member. Better if they record actuals such as date started, work accomplished and estimate of remaining work.

How about looking for a tool to eliminate project failure?

Many of the Top 10 reasons include subjects that could justify the use of a project management tool. Easy access to communications and dynamic updating of the project’s tasks as well as keeping on top of who is doing what (ie. resource allocation) are just some of the benefits that a tool such as one of those mentioned below can provide. Take a look!

Top 10 Main Causes of Project Failure

Need a simple project management software to manage your team?
Check-out our valuable and unique Top 15 Web Applications 2015.

There are a lot of tips, resources, and guidelines on project management. However, one of the least discussed topics involves project failure. Very few project managers or companies want to admit their failure. Yet, it is very rampant especially in ill-defined projects. That’s the reason why it is important to evaluate all the possible challenges even at the very start. It lets the project manager, the team members, and the client mitigate risks associated with the work.

In this article, we’ll identify the 10 main causes of project failure. Knowing about these helps you become more prepared for the tasks ahead:

  1. Poor planning and/or inadequate process – planning is central to the success of a project. It is important to define what constitutes project success or failure at the earliest stage of the process. It is also essential to drill down the big picture to smaller tasks.
  2. Inefficient way to document and track progress – this is an oversight on the part of the project manager. Tracking milestones is a crucial way to see if expectations are being met. Documentation and tracking also lets the manager identify which areas require more resources to be completed on time.
  3. Poor leadership at any level – the “leader” is usually identified as the project manager. However, the management-level executive also has a responsibility of ensuring the project’s success. He/she should work together with the manager to ensure that the company’s exact requirements are understood.
  4. Failure to set expectations and manage them – in working in a team setting, it is critical that you’re able to manage people. If and when expectations are not met, there should be clearly-defined consequences. The task should then be prioritized and possibly reassigned to a more competent individual.
  5. Inadequately-trained project managers – the project manager is taking on a heavy responsibility. It is important to assign management roles only to individuals who have the capabilities to meet requirements. In some cases, poorly-trained managers are assigned to complex projects; this is a recipe for failure.
  6. Inaccurate cost estimation – there are instances when the cost of an undertaking is grossly underestimated. When it runs out of resources, the project cannot be completed. This can be mitigated when the lack of resources is identified early by the project manager.
  7. Lack of communication at any level – communication between the management executive and the project manager, and between the latter and the team members are always important. Everyone should feel free to come forward to state their concern or give suggestions.
  8. Culture or ethical misalignment – the culture of the company must prize competence, pro-activeness, and professionalism. If it doesn’t, the team members may not have the motivation to do their best. In essence, everyone involved must be concerned about the success of their undertaking.
  9. Competing priorities – when a company’s resources are stretched, there will be competing priorities in terms of manpower and financing. Having good cost estimation at the start will eliminate this problem.
  10. Disregard of project warning signs – when a project is on the verge of failing, there will always be warning signs. Taking action immediately can save the project. Otherwise, the whole endeavor can just go down the drain.

How about looking for a tool to eliminate project failure?

The points made above all demonstrate different aspects to how project failure can occur, including lack of communication and poor tracking.  There exist many tools/apps that can help in many of these and should be considered.  Here are a few below that might set your projects on a successful path.

iFixit Apple Pencil teardown reveals twin emitters to measure angle & orientation, logic board folded in half

LbUxGWkVsdoUeyN3

No new Apple tech survives long without being taken apart by iFixit, and the Apple Pencil is no exception. Apple didn’t make it easy, however, with iFixit having to resort to a small circular saw to open up the device and needing to break a flex cable along the way.

Inside, it found that the plastic outer casing reveals a metal inner one. The tip contains two separate emitters, used to determine both the angle and orientation of the Pencil in order to adjust the width of the pen stroke. With such little space to play with, Apple had to get creative with the logic board …

iFixit reports that the logic board is the smallest one it’s ever seen, and weighs just 1g. Even so, Apple still struggled to fit it into the casing so they folded it in half.

5ibhjx6plRvgpqfU

There’s an even tinier sensor board inside the nib, with movement between two parts acting as an apparent pressure sensor.

Unsurprisingly, iFixit gives it 1 out of 10 for repairability, which really ought to be a zero as “you can’t get inside without destroying the device.” Fortunately, it appears you’re unlikely to damage it in normal use.

Both Tim Cook and Jony Ive have been talking up the capabilities of the Pencil, even if it is taking a while to get them into customers’ hands.

Head on over to iFixit to see the full teardown photos and details, and our own less destructive look at the device.

Supply-chain report claims Apple on track for 10M Apple Watch sales as it seeks an additional supplier

apple-store-watch

The variously-reliable Digitimes reports supply-chain sources as saying that Apple is likely to ship more than 10M Apple Watches by the end of the year, noting that the company is currently seeking a second supplier.

Apple has placed orders for four million Apple Watches for the fourth quarter, targeting mainly demand from the year-end holidays. Sales of Apple Watch are expected to surpass 10 million units in 2015 […]

Apple is to seek another manufacturer aside from Quanta Computer, according to a Chinese-language Apple Daily report …

Apple Watches are currently all made by Quanta Computer, but Apple has reportedly approached Inventec, Wistron and Foxconn Electronics about the possibility of one of them acting as a second supplier. The piece claims that the companies may be reluctant after Quanta reportedly made weaker than expected profits from the contract.

Quanta was recently cited as the source for an earlier report claiming that the Apple Watch 2 will be shipped around the second or third quarter of next year.

Our own sources back in the summer suggested that the next-generation Watch may see a FaceTime camera, more capable on-board Wi-Fi and additional premium-priced models.

Apple has consistently declined to reveal sales numbers for the Apple Watch, with analysts essentially guessing wildly.

Apple Watch hits Swiss watch industry hard, suffers biggest slump in six years

swiss

Jony Ive’s year-ago prediction that the Swiss watch industry would be in trouble once the Apple Watch launched appears to have been correct (his actual language was said to have been stronger). Bloomberg reports that Swiss watch exports suffered their biggest slump in six years.

Shipments declined 12 percent to 2 billion Swiss francs ($2 billion), the Swiss customs office said in a statement Thursday. Adjusted for fewer working days, the drop was 7.6 percent. Exports to the U.S. dropped 12 percent.

“2015 has been one to forget for the watchmakers,” said Jon Cox, an analyst at Kepler Cheuvreux in Zurich.

The figures show that both higher- and lower-end brands are being hit hard, especially in the world’s biggest market for Swiss watches, Hong Kong …

The industry is pulling back in the island city, with TAG Heuer shuttering a store there in August. Richemont, , the maker of Cartier jewelry and IWC timepieces, has said its sales declined in October on weak watch demand.

Swatch and Fossil are likewise suffering, report analysts.

Swatch co-inventor Elmar Mock had said the day after the Apple Watch was launched that “anything in the price range of 500 francs to 1,000 francs [US$500-$1,000] is really in danger.”

Tag Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Biver’s hope that “Apple will get young people used to wearing a watch and later maybe they will want to buy themselves a real watch” is not looking too good right now. The company launched its own $1500 smartwatch earlier this month, but appeared to have extremely low sales expectations.

Top tech investor Steve Jurvetson says Steve Jobs was “long obsessed” with returning to Apple through his NeXT days

jurvetson

Interviewed by Bloomberg’s Emily Chang, leading tech investor Steve Jurvetson said that Steve Jobs was obsessed with returning to Apple during his NeXT days.

He was just obsessed with Apple […] He didn’t own a share of Apple [at the time but] felt this visceral pain when Apple was being beaten around in the public eye or in the press. He would always come to the same inevitable conclusion that Apple should bring him and the NeXT technology, the operating system, back into Apple.

Jurvetson admitted that he thought Jobs was nuts every time he raised the idea, but “of course, that’s exactly what happened.”

Jurvetson made the first ever venture capital investment in Hotmail, and currently sits on the board of Tesla and SpaceX among others companies. Asked how he got to know Jobs in those days, he said he “just asked” if he could learn from him.

Later on Jurvetson admits he’s not a fan of the Apple Watch because it doesn’t meet his charging requirements use case.

Free Color Tools

13) Pictaculous

One of the most important elements of web design is your color palette — you want to make sure your images, graphics, and font colors all help convey your message and maybe even drive conversions. But often, it’s hard to find that exact shade of blue that’s in a photograph you need to use — which is where Pictaculous comes in. Upload a photo and then instantly get recommendations for colors to use, including their respective HEX codes. Your color palettes will never be uncoordinated again.

14) ColorZilla

ColorZilla is a great tool for your most basic to your most advanced color-related needs. Whether you’re looking to pull up the HEX code for a specific pixel on a page, analyze DOM element colors, or uncover element information such as tag name, class, id, and size, this tool can handle it all.

Available as either a Google Chrome Extension or a Firefox add-on, we’re willing to be that ColorZilla will quickly become one of your favorite go-to design tools.

16) Skitch

Skitch, a handy screen capture program from Evernote, is a functional, free tool for helping marketers and designers “get their point across with fewer words.” Users can use shapes, arrows, text, and doodles to annotate existing or freshly captured images — and file them away to their Evernote account for later use.

Don’t have an Evernote account? No problem. All capturing, markup, saving, and sharing functions don’t require an account. However, if you’re looking for an organized, cloud-based place to save your Skitch photos, we recommend you use Evernote — it’s also free.

Free Photo Editing Tools

17) PicMonkey

Okay, let’s say you don’t have the budget for Photoshop and feel somewhat limited by PowerPoint’s visual editing capabilities … what are you to do? If you want to spruce up your images — re-color them, add borders, add text, and even insert graphics on top — all without downloading yet another program to your computer, check out PicMonkey. The whole photo editing process is intuitive, which means you can spend more time optimizing your blog posts instead of sprucing up its accompanying featured image.

You’re at an event. You’re laptop-less. And you just took an awesome photo with [insert esteemed thought leader here] that you want to share on social media … but it’s a little dark. Bummer.

With a mobile photo editing app like VSCO Cam or Snapseed, you can tweak your photo to perfection and share it on the fly. Both apps are available free for iOS and Android and come equipped with impressive, professional looking filters and functions.

27) InVision & 28) Marvel

Depending on the sophistication of your design needs, you may find yourself in need of a prototyping app. This type of software can be used to turn your ideas — whether it be an app or a website that you’ve cooked up in your head — into a more tangible reality.

While there are many free options available, we’ve selected two that really deliver in terms of ease of use and functionality: InVision and Marvel. Although InVision does offer more advanced, paid plans, you can get started with one prototype at no cost. As for Marvel, a free plan will grant you access to unlimited projects with no limits on time.

Free Drawing Tools

29) Google Drawings

Say goodbye to your weird Microsoft Paint drawings and say hello to polished, professional Google Drawings. If you have a personal Gmail or your company uses Google Apps, you can use Google Drawings to create custom visual content. One of my favorite features about it is that it comes with an invisible background right off the bat so you can create custom shapes that can easily be pasted on top of your other marketing collateral — the perfect way to spruce up an updated ebook call-to-action or even customize a stock photo. And the best part of all is that you can collaborate with your co-workers on the drawing by sharing the document, just like you would any other Google Document.

Uber iOS app adds credit card profiles, allowing you to separate business & personal rides

uber

If you use Uber for both business and work, it can be a pain handling the accounting, having to remember to claim the business rides back on expenses. But the service now allows you to register a second credit card for business use, and then simply tap your Personal or Business profile in the app to charge the appropriate card.

You can create your profiles by hitting the menu icon top-left then selecting Settings > Profiles > Start riding with profiles. You can then use your iPhone camera to scan your business credit card to add it to the app and select it as the default payment method for your newly-created Business profile.

Uber added AMBER alerts to its drivers’ app last month.

Native Advertising: Understanding the Basics

You’ve heard it a million times, native advertising is the next big thing. But what exactly is native advertising, and why is it causing such a stir for brands, agencies, and publishers alike?

For publishers in particular, native is a chance to put editorial expertise to work for advertisers and brands. This provides a more trusted and valuable, channel to reach readers as compared to banner or traditional display advertising. In fact, according to our most recent research, 54% of publishers cite sponsored content and native advertising as the revenue streams poised to increase most in value over the next two years.

For more on why exactly native advertising is poised to succeed, and what can publishers do to help, take a look at the infographic below from The Huffington Post. Native-Age-FINAL.jpg

3 Musts to Get Your Ecommerce Site Mobile Friendly by the Holidays

mobile-ready-holiday.jpg

According to NRF, 25 million holiday shoppers said they would specifically use their mobile device to shop online on Cyber Monday this year. That is a big chunk of the expected $116 billion ecommerce will bring in this holiday season! Part of serving customers (that want to give you their money) is providing a happy, helpful online experience. Increasingly, online includes mobile devices.

Is your website mobile ready? Can you handle the masses of holiday shoppers that are coming your way? Let’s take a look at some of the most important features you’ll need before the buying begins.

Quick Load Times

Mobile devices users are a lot more forgiving with load times on phones and tablets than they are for desktops and laptops. Still, that doesn’t mean they’ll wait around all day for the site to load just so they can make a purchase. If they wanted to wait, they’d go stand in line in a store, right?

And speaking of stores, sometimes those shoppers are using their phones to compare prices between an item in a brick-and-mortar shop and the one on your ecommerce site. If they don’t get the info quick enough, they might just grab the one right in front of them. You know, for instant gratification. It really is all about speed, so make sure your mobile site is blazing fast.

Make Payments Easy

Even after upgrading your site for blazing fast speeds, you’ll still discover some buyers back out at the last minute. This is often due to the difficulty of paying for their purchases on mobile devices. Whether it’s the struggle of entering credit card information on a tiny screen or the lack of choices for payment options, the transaction comes to a screeching halt.

How can you make sure these customers move easily through the checkout phase? First, make sure there are several different options for making payments. In addition to credit cards, consider other options that require a simple sign-in to pay, such as Apple Pay, Android Pay, PayPal, Google Wallet, and even Venmo.

Some customers may also prefer to save their credit card information so that purchases require only a single click. If you want to offer this service, make those buyers as comfy as possible with all the information about site security in a conspicuous location. When it comes time to finish their order, they’ll be more likely to follow through.

Check the Small Stuff

If you think “small stuff” means the unimportant stuff, think again. When navigating on a mobile device, users will have trouble with small text, small pictures, small links… There’s a lot of small stuff you need to check, see?

The mobile friendly version of your website should make the small things bigger and the big things smaller. There should be plenty of white space around links so no one fumble-fingers their way into an accidental purchase. The photos should be large enough to show detail so buyers know exactly what they’re getting. And text should be legible for almost any level of eyesight.

With these features all wrapped up tightly, you’ll be set to sell just in time for the holiday season. If you’re still lacking a little mobile friendliness, there’s still time to get in the spirit, but hurry. Some are already starting their shopping!
